English for Employment
These part-time courses are designed for companies to help staff from overseas improve their communication skills
in English. The classes concentrate on general English and communication skills. Classes
are taught on-site and arranged to fit around the students’ working hours. The programme and course materials
are adapted to suit the area of employment.
All the classes are taught by a qualified native speaker and we will work with the employer to design a course
tailored to their requirements.
We usually suggest a 12-week course of 4 hours of tuition per week. However, this timetable can be adapted
to suit your needs.
Benefits of the English for Employment programme:
- The classes are taught on-site and are arranged to fit around the students’ working hours. The employer is able to
schedule the classes during quiet periods during the day and evening and arrange staff cover if necessary.
-
The material covered in class relates directly to the students’ roles at work. The programme and material covered
can be adapted to suit the area of employment. The teacher will plan the programme with the employer to ensure that
all relevant materials and topics are covered, for example, staff handbooks, checklists, etc.
-
Lessons concentrate on communication skills necessary for the students to carry out their jobs successfully.
-
The groups are small and the students often know each other already. This provides a supportive learning
environment and encourages a good relationship between employees.
-
The teacher works closely with the employer to provide regular progress report and to flag up any potential difficulties.
-
The employer can subsidise the course or deduct the tuition fees from the students’ wages. This ensures that
students do attend language classes. It also enhances the employers’ in-house training programmes.
We also offer one-off courses for individuals or groups aimed at improving a particular skill, such as writing
emails and letters, speaking and pronunciation. These courses last for a morning, an afternoon, or a full day,
and will help the staff to develop their skills in a specific area.
To enrol for a course, or for further information, please contact the office.
One to One Tuition
We offer one to one tuition for students who wish to work on their language skills individually with a tutor, for example
when preparing for an exam or an interview.
Each programme is tailored to suit the student’s needs and interests and allows the student to work at their own
pace to focus on particular language weaknesses or areas of study. The student and tutor design a programme together,
enabling the student to take control of their own learning process and students are encouraged to bring in materials.
Students have the opportunity for maximum speaking time in class without competition for the tutor’s time.
One to one classes are ideal for students who need a flexible timetable as students can attend classes for as many or
few hours a week as they wish.
Benefits of one to one tuition:
- Flexible timetable and course content
-
Material can be supplied by the student
-
Focus on particular language weaknesses or specialised areas of study
-
The opportunity to improve your language skills at your own pace Close guidance and support from your tutor to realise your goals
-
One to one environment helps to build confidence and self-esteem
-
Students have the constant attention of the tutor and can talk and listen more in English than they might in a class
