FULL-TIME ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES
We offer a range of full-time courses for individuals and closed groups, lasting one or two weeks, or just a weekend. These offer students an understanding of Scottish culture, in addition to General English or Business English tuition. The courses can provide a combination of classroom-based learning and cultural activities, with visits to places of interest in and around Edinburgh, planned beforehand in consultation with the individual or group leader.

These courses are suitable for:
  • Short study trips
  • Non-native speakers who have recently moved here and would like an “Introduction to Scotland”
  • Students who would like to study a particular aspect of English
  • Students who wish to study English more intensively
A Pre-Course Questionnaire is sent out before the course in order to plan the programme. Each course is tailored to meet the individual or group’s exact requirements.

Benefits of full-time courses:
  • Pre-course planning ensures that the programme is tailored to the specific needs of the individual or group
  • Immersion in English enables students to improve their language skills quickly
  • Students are accompanied on all excursions by a native speaker, usually a qualified tutor
  • Students are able to communicate in English more effectively at work after the course and are increasingly confident using English in social situations
  • Small classes offer flexibility within the syllabus
  • Courses could be part of a company induction programme for new employees arriving in Scotland
  • Short courses ensure minimal time off work
Intensive Weekend English Courses

The English-Speaking Union offers two intensive weekend programmes:

General English: A course of 12 hours tuition over two days on Saturday and Sunday, aimed at improving written and spoken grammar, comprehension and pronunciation. This course is also well suited to non-native speakers who live in and around Edinburgh who are unable to attend weekly classes. (Accommodation is not included but we can help you arrange it.)

General English Course with Cultural Visits: This course combines 6 hours of English language tuition with visits to the castle, museums and galleries of Edinburgh. This course suits visitors who wish to improve their English and explore the sights of Edinburgh. (Accommodation is not included but we can help you arrange it.)
