31st July 2008 We are delighted to announce that our patron HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
will be attending a lunch reception at the Conference on Tuesday 16th September. We are also very
pleased to announce that Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland, will be joining us at the Conference
on Wednesday 17th September.
28th July2008 The timing of the US Members Gathering has changed. It will now take place from
10.00am-12.00pm at 23 Atholl Crescent. Please see the updated programme for more details.
25th July 2008 We are delighted to announce that we have two new keynote speakers at the Conference.
Professor Christopher Mulvey from the University of Winchester will be talking about the English Project.
Dr Jane Davis from the Reader Organisation will be speaking about English Literature as a Bridge Between Cultures.
Details of the speakers will be available soon on the Speakers' page.
6th May 2008 Professor Stanley Wells and Dr Paul Edmondson to speak at Shakespeare session at the
Conference. More details to follow.
5th May 2008 Only 10 days left for early-bird bookings!
31st March 2008 The deadline for the photographic competition and the Yearbook contributions is today.
Please send in all your contributions as soon as possible!

The ESU of the United States AGM will now start at 9am on Monday 15th September.
The draft programme will be updated to reflect this as soon as possible.
13th December 2007 We are delighted to announce that Cambridge University Press,
Highland Spring, The Town House Company, and William Grant and Son have generously offered sponsorship
for the Conference.
1st December 2007 Places for the Conference are now being booked!
6th November 2007 Professor Ronald Carter from Nottingham University has confirmed that
he will speak at the Conference about teaching English as a foreign language.
10th August 2007
Professor Sheila Dow from Stirling University has confirmed that she will speak at the Conference on Knowledge, Communication and the Scottish Enlightenment.
